June Canning

Both recipes are from Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving.

Rhubarb concentrate with orange and lemon zest. Mix equal parts with ginger ale, or water to drink on a hot day ( or in this case in the middle of winter when I will be dreaming of summer). Its a great way to use up all that rhubarb that is taking over your yard.

Pickled asparagus. So hard to find local asparagus this year on account of the flood and the season is short anyway. After we ate some fresh I decided to pickle the rest to eat in the winter or whenever.

This doesn't have anything to do with canning and I am too lazy to make another post ( I blogged excessively about Monarchs last year). Anyway, look what I found in the milkweed. The first monarch caterpillar of the year! This caterpillar is likely a direct descendant of a monarch that came to this plant last year. Apparently they keep coming back to the same plant. Think about it...is that crazy or what?!

  1. My mouth is watering at the rhubarb drink, sounds refreshing and it's 98 degrees here in NM! You are a full fledged gardener sista, its been fun to see it all happen over the years.

  2. Thanks! I decided not to post the ginger marmalade I recently made....hard as a rock. Lots of trial and error but definitely things are coming along
